We have received a number of requests about what should be told to students about the potential for a strike and what the students should do in the case of a strike. We suggest that you tell them the following.
The faculty is in negotiations with the administration for a new contract. On Monday, October 6 the faculty may go on strike.
If a strike is called, I will not be in class, holding office hours, or responding to emails.
If the administration places a substitute into the class (either in person or online), I will not hold you responsible for anything that such a substitute does, any assignment that he/she gives you, or for attendance during the period of a strike.
If there is a strike you should keep up with the assignments on my syllabus and once I return we will figure out how to make up for any missing material.
If you have any questions or would like to show your support to the faculty, please feel free to stop by during my office hours to talk.
